HoTs and DoTs: A Restoration Druid and Shadow Priest

The Future of Raiding

A few days ago we got to look into the crystal ball and see the future of raiding in World of Warcraft. Developers released this announcement which outlines how they intend raids and progression to work in Cataclysm. Most of the changes left me feeling pensive about Cataclysm – I can’t help but feel that all the things I love about raiding are slipping further out of my grasp.

Revisiting Sunken Temple

Sunken Temple is evil. I’m convinced the designers enjoyed creating a maze that sends you off in spiraling staircases every which way. Only Sunken Temple would present you with a dilemma the moment you zone it – 4 doorways: which do you take?

Restoration (Shaman) No More

I tried. I really did. I waited until I had gathered 200+ Emblems of Triumph and bought all my 232 Tier 9 to see if it would make a difference. It didn’t. I still struggled to heal as a Restoration Shaman.

Good News for Trees of Life

OK it creeps me out a teeny bit when I write a post about how I personally envision things changing… and then I read a short paragraph from Blizzard that sounds eerily familiar!

The Story

And a minute later and I was sitting on The Lich King’s knee taking a screen capture like I was a child posing with Santa in a Shopping Center (see above). What do I want for Christmas, Santa? One Tal’thas, Dagger of the Blood King please.

Tree of Life, Tranquility & Cataclysm

So I’ve calmed down a little bit since first reading that Blizzard intends to remove Tree of Life as a Druid shapeshift form. But a glimmer of hope still remains – there’s a small chance that the new version of Tree of Life might be even cooler than being a tree 100% of the time (ok, a very, very small hope glimmer).

The Shadow Priest Changes for Cataclysm

I read the Priest Class Changes for Cataclysm (MMO Champion link for when the Blizzard one breaks) right after they were released. I was standing at a target dummy in Stormwind messing with my UI and it was a quiet afternoon when a guildie asked me if I had read the post. I read it. I thought: oh well that’s not great, not too bad either. And went back to making my ForteXorcist Spell Timer match the exact width of Quartz.
And I felt that someone ought to comment on the Shadow Priest changes. And since there are only a couple of Shadow Priest blogs out there… here goes.

Dealing with Jerks & Dungeon Finder

I was reading Tamarind’s post about the absolute assholes that you come across in PuGs and the change to the Dungeon Deserter debuff – soon to be a 30 minute penalty instead of 15 minutes. While I totally agreed with Tamarind’s zero-tolerance stance in dealing with these dickheads, I actually disagreed with his conclusion – that the victims in nasty parties will be punished more than the abuser.

Save the Trees

Tree of Life is changing from a passive talent to a cooldown-based talent, similar to Metamorphosis. Mechanically, it feels unfair for a druid to have to give up so much offense and utility in order to be just as good at healing as the other classes who are not asked to make that trade.

The Church of Lathology

I’m pleased to report that the morale in my guild has skyrocketed over the last couple of weeks.  After rebuilding our raid team at the beginning of the year we now have a strong group that has been playing together long enough to understand each others strengths and weaknesses.  So while our progression took a [...]
