Banned for "spamming and trolling"
I found this quite humorous – I have been given a 24 hour ban for trolling! You may now call me Lathere the Forum Troll. If only it were an achievement title you could actually earn in game.
I am responsible for updating the recruitment thread for my guild on the official World of Warcraft Realm Forum (Barthilas) and as usual you get the standard trolls who sit there and add silly comments about how shit your guild is and then the level 1 alts come out to then say how crap the previous poster/troll is and how nice your guild is.
Normally I completely ignore these but feeling ready for a good battle after an awful day at work I decided to try adding a bit of sugar (or spice?) into the mix and thanked the trolls for keeping our thread at the top of the forum homepage for a good 24 hours. All publicity is good publicity, right?
I wished I had written more on this blog post yesterday because then I could have kept some of the original comments and added them in for extra entertainment value. Most of them have already been deleted.
I’m admit the thread had deteriorated into something a bit nasty. One troll left a comment stating that the women in our guild are getting paid gold to “filch” potential recruits from other guilds – a whole new way of poaching. I assume filch means prostituting ourselves out. But I can’t be sure because I’m not really up with the forum lingo I’m afraid.
I will state that prior to my last post I had only written standard /bump messages. But my final reply which must have been seen as a bit naughty because, well I got a slap on the wrist and a 24 hour ban for trolling.

I don’t know, I’ve seen a lot worse threads that are still available to be read and the writers seem to have gotten away ban free. I would be curious to know if anyone else has been banned from the official forums and if they felt it was a bit over the top.

I can’t believe they banned you for that haha. Now, when my raid leader was banned for launching a string of cuss words at the CMs in the Cust support forums about the lag, that I could understand. But this? I see nothing wrong here.
Only thing I can think of is they cleaned house and you got swept out with the trolling trash!
I’d fight it on principle. They’re tagging you for the 8/10 part I think, and the tendency of trolls raiting troll posts like that.

. I was entertained by the trolling, esp the comment about ‘filching’ whatever that means (I don’t know either Lath). Imo the trolls be jealous that our guild gets all the ladies, and the trolling actually seemed to get us a few recruits too, so it’s all good.
Btw I’m not banned from forums but I can’t post on them. Tried to post once and put the wrong DoB, now it thinks I’m too young to post and I’ve no idea how to fix it.
How come no one has attempted to “filch” me? Very, very disappointed with the ladies in Vitare…..

Filching is another word for stealing. It has no dirty connotations… in fact, it’s most often used to describe the act of stealing cheap things. That a troll would accuse you of thieving their cheap, low-quality players from them is something I would think they should be thanking you for
As for using females to steal players into a guild, this is not a new idea. I knew of quite a little vixen who played with the hearts of lonely, single male gamers and used their affections to fund all of her raiding, potions, skill leveling, and–if they were sufficiently skilled–her raiding roster. She spent a lot of time in trade chat flirting and linking her shiny epics and fawning over the raids that so graciously gave them to her. It was sickening >_>
Seems a little harsh that they’d give you a ban for that. Nothing inappropriate about it, and you threw in the recruitment bit at the end, so it’s still a useful post.

Also that seems an incredibly mild thing to ban you for – but then what do I know? I avoid the official forums like the plaaaague.

Hmmm ok thats interesting to know what the correct meaning of filching is. I assumed it meant prostituting because we offer all our raiders a 2k gold incentive for finding good recruits that make it through our trial period. The main reason to do this is so that all our raiders feel they have input and control into our raid group and also so it means less work for me
Filch does have a different (sexual) meaning, which I would assume is what the forum troll was implying, you know, as forum trolls tend to do. If this is the case however the troll was completely ignorant, you know, as trolls tend to be, because it is impossible for a woman to preform the act of filching. I won’t go into the details here (google it) other than to say that I’ve been told that the final result tastes like root beer.
In other news – this is my first time posting here but I do read the blog regularly and find it rather entertaining. Keep up the good work!
