As a Priest I have a tiny friend, my Shadowfiend. My Shadowfiend gives me back mana once every three minutes (talented), or so I thought. It turns out that I have been greatly underestimating the abilities of my little pet.
Sure I’ve read jokes about Shadow Priest burst damage, or the lack thereof, and smiled to myself at “Shadow Priest burst = Shadowcrawl” type comments.
The penny dropped last night. Shadowcrawl is an ability on the pet bar when you whip out your pet. All this time I thought it was an automatically activated default attack but it’s not! Click on it and your little creature will do 15% more damage for a short time. I’m not sure how much of a difference that it makes, to dps or mana regeneration but it’s something. Something extra when you need it and usually when I put the pet out, I need it.
Let me just say that I suck with minions/pets. This is why I don’t play a warlock (I did try once). I still don’t understand what that dotted animation that goes around and around on a pet ability means. I thought it meant that the ability was active/in-use.
And if you’d like to know what caused the penny to drop for me last night, check out these great videos and see the Shadowfiend in action in Arenas. I loved these videos and props to the two Shadow Priests, Aida and Dweyna, in the videos: you’re doing a much better job than I could! There’s just something so amusing about imagining your Arena opponents saying “kill the Shadow Priest first! no wait… omg there’s two of them?”
I’m going to replace my Shadowfiend button with this macro and test it out in Ulduar next raid:
#showtooltip Shadowfiend /cast [nopet] Shadowfiend /petattack /cast Shadowcrawl
