Lath’s All Time Favourite Raid Bosses

I’ve killed Yoggy now and even after many many wipes I still think that he is my favourite boss fight. Cass on the other hand experienced the Yogg portals for the first time on our 10 man run and absolutely can’t stand it. This made me think about what other boss fights I’ve really enjoyed since I started raiding in BC and I wonder how different my favs are compared to others.  Below is a count down of my top 5 fights.

5. Prince Malchezaar, Karazhan

This fight will always feel quite epic to me. My guild took quite a while to get up to Prince & as a healer it was a particularly stressful fight when you enter phase 2.  We had some truly crazy infernal drops and when everyone moved and did the right thing and you all still survived it was an awesome feeling!

Cass did a video of one of our zanier Prince fights.  Watch the infernal strafe straight past the tree!

4. Mimiron, Ulduar

I had heard so many awful Mimi stories. Healers bemoaned that getting through phase 2 was impossible. I perhaps luckily missed the first night of wipes my guild experienced with Mimiron and when I finally went in found this fight great fun! Its so chaotic and all the phases and different healing assignments just make it a blast.

3. Malygos, Eye of Eternity

Malygos in the Eye of Eternity

I have come to terms with the fact that healers will never get to go onto a hoverboard in phase 2. I will be forever jealous of dps zipping around pewpewing from the sky. Aside from this, phase 3 can be a pain when pugging but shows off and rewards great team work when done right! Maly also has some very yummy gear which makes him even more fun.

2. Leothoras the Blind, Serpentshrine Cavern

What can be cooler than having to fight off your inner demon…. and getting to kill those noobles in your raid that turn on you! Leo was such a challenging fight, and everyone had to know what they were doing.  While there were many 1% wipes on this guy, I will always remember how rewarding it felt the first time we got this guy down.

1. Yogg-Saron, Ulduar

Any fight that has tentacles that pick you up is plain awesome. Tentacles that pick you up and let you keep healing is totally amazing!  Add in a gigantic brain, portals which let you enter his illusions and psychotic voices in the background, as Barney from How I Met Your Mother would say….. LEGENDARY!

I’m sure many people will read this and think I’m nutty. Hell I read this back and go…. hmmmmm I seem to really like multiphase difficult fights, but there you have it. I just wish I had also done the Vanilla WoW boss fights to see if any of those would have made the list.

As a pally tank, my favorite boss was Prince in Kara. It was the first truly epic moment for me and being able to tank him through both phases without getting crushed and destroyed was a semi-status symbol that showed that you’ve arrived among tanks.

I haven’t raided much, only up to Kologarn now, and no further than ZA in tbc, but there has not been any fight that’s been able to match the epicness of that battle.

My Favs… Leo the Blind. He was such a pain for a Rogue but still lots of fun and it was an awesome feeling when we finally got him.

My next fav was the good old Hex Lord from ZA. The fact that he’d randomly steal peoples abilities made for an interesting fight.

BTW, the new layout is looking very nice.

WOW you liked Hex Lord *shudder*. That was the first boss that I felt didn’t just test my abilities, he made me feel that I just wasn’t good enough! I can see what you mean about the stealing abilities, but everytime he stole the pally wings healing was pure misery. Maybe I should do a follow up…. Lath’s All Time Most Hated Boss Fights :P

Ash, that’s our brother pally tanking in the video from way back when. The first time he tried it (when our Warrior tank was not playing that night) he got smacked down. Bad.

Then we got a short lesson on the mechanics of crushing blows…
